4. Independence Palace

6. Jade Emperor Pagoda
Jade Emperor Pagoda or Jade Emperor Temple is a Taoist and Buddhist pagoda. This is one of the most beautiful and atmospheric temples in Saigon. Built in 1892 by a community of Chinese immigrants with their leaders Liu Ming, this pagoda is a representation of Mahayanist branch of Buddhism in Vietnam and it is the only place where the Jade Emperor is worshipped in Vietnam. From 1984, it was renamed into the new Chinese name Phuoc Hai Tu (Sea of Blessing Temple). It is also more and more famous when U.S. President Barack Obama visited this place during his state trip to Vietnam on 22 May 2016. Highlights: The structure of the temple can be divided into two separate parts: courtyard and inside the temple. Passing through the main door to the temple, you will arrive at the courtyard divided into three parts. In the first half of the courtyard, there is a small turret with a statue of Dharmapala, a Buddhist philosopher. After this first part is a small pond with many turtles and benches. The last part of the courtyard, so-called incinerator, is a chimney-shaped structure where worshippers can burn papers of which the smoke is believed to be able to reach their ancestors in heaven. Inside the temple, there are many artworks with a set of about 300 ancient statues, including 100 made from wooden cardboard, presenting a meeting of genies with the Jade Emperor in the pagoda. 7. Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral
Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral, aka Saigon Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica or Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of The Immaculate Conception, is one of the few remaining strongholds of Catholicism in Vietnam and also considered the most attractive tourist attraction in Ho Chi Minh City. Built from 1863 to 1880 by the French architects, the cathedral is 60m high. Initially, it was called Saigon Church. The name Notre-Dame Cathedral was named after Bishop of the Church held a ceremony to install the statue of Peaceful Notre Dame in 1959. In 1962, Vatican anointed it as Saigon Chief Cathedral. Since then, this cathedral is called Saigon Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica. Highlights: Its design shows the influence of France and Christianity. 8. Saigon Central Post Office
Ho Chi Minh City Post Office or Saigon Central Post Office is the main post office and one of the most attractive tourist attractions in Ho Chi Minh City. The building was built around 1886 – 1891 by a French architect Alfred Foulhoux. The structure in the post office is reserved perfectly. Today, it has been the busiest post office in Vietnam. How to get there
Flights to Dalat
There are regular flights with Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air and Jetstar, including a daily service to Danang (1¼ hour), four daily to Hanoi (1¾ hour) and HCMC (45 minutes), and twice a week to Can Tho (1¼ hour) ).
Busses to Dalat
Dalat is an important bus stop for open bus tickets. The Sinh Tourist has daily buses to Mui Ne, Nha Trang and HCMC.
Dalat’s long-distance bus station is 1.5 km south of Xuan Huong Lake and is dominated by Phuong Trang buses that offer free hotel pick-ups and drop-offs and buses to all major regional destinations.
How to get around
Motorbike: The bets way to get around is by motorbike/scooter. Rent is 150,000d to 200,000d per day. It is understandable if you don’t want to drive around yourself, as the roads in Vietnam as not very safe. In this case we highly recommend doing a Easy Rider tour.
Car: Alternatively you can travel by comfortable car. Daily rental (with driver) starts at around $ 50.

The large island consists of 8 islets, 20 km off the coast from Hoi An Ancient Town in Quang Binh Province. Cu Lao Cham Island has wonderful sand beaches, forested hills, a nature reserve and the sea. I. History of Cu Lao Cham Islands
Cham islands are supposed to be the first place where Cham people landed, coming to Quang Nam Province from Indonesia (small monuments, dikes, and basin to grow rice on terraces are hidden in the forest, the 17th-century pagodas and small temples in the two villages).
Therefore, being well-known since earlier Cham domination (from 4th to 14th century), the island became one of the main ports of Champa Kingdom. Situated some eight miles offshore Hoi An, it was also part of Hoi An historical international trading. From the 15th century till the beginning of 20th century, the old city was a meeting point for international vessels and junks.
According to archaeologists, Cu Lao Cham first settled there 3,000 years ago and established business contacts with external countries some 1,000 years ago. Up to now, Cu Lao Cham has preserved many architectural constructions which date back to the 18th and 20th century. They include the shrine dedicated to Than Yen Sao, built in 1843 at Bai Huong and Hai Tang Pagoda, built in 1753 on the western hillside of Hon Lao.
Still, Cu Lao Cham has more to offer. After a three-hour canoe trip, one may hop over to the famed Well of the Cham people.
II. Topography of Cu Lao Cham Nature Reserve
The topography of Cu Lao Cham Island is dominated by two peaks: a 517m peak in the centre of the island and a 326m peak at the western end. Natural forest here covers 532 ha of the nature reserve, equivalent to 35% of the total area, while plantation forest covers a further 30 ha.
Cham island comprises an archipelago of one large island and seven smaller islands: Hon Dai, Hon Lao, Hon Kho Me, Hon La, Hon Kho Con, Hon Ong, Hon Tai, Hon Mo. The largest island of them is Hon Lao, which covers 1,317 ha and has a circular shape at the height of 500m. There are nice beaches at Bim and Ong beach.

III. Biodiversity Values
The island is a place where shelter for value swallow birds. The natural vegetation of the islands is a lowland evergreen forest, that is natural with a lot of woods and rare animals.
Scientists report the occurrence of macaques Macaca sp., monitor lizards Varanus sp. and pythons Python sp. To date, 265 vascular plant species have been reported from Cu Lao Cham nature reserve. Furthermore, a species of swiftlet Collocalia sp. is reported to nest on Hon Kho within the nature reserve.
Cu Lao Cham is also home to salanganes, birds whose nests have long been considered a delicacy by aristocrats and the wealthy. The nests may cost as much as US $4,000 per kilogram. On a beautiful day, tourists are able to see cliffs where salanganes build their nests and talk with salangane-nest takers.
Around the island has a lot of color corals under the water. Situated in a salty-water area, this square-bottom well, amazingly, provides clear freshwater all year round. Visiting Cu Lao Cham, tourists have a chance to view the sea swallows’ nests clinging to the towering cliffs. Cu Lao Cham wins kudos for its seafood and delicacies (octopuses, lobsters, fish’s fin, abalone, kaki, hind, cholonia’s eggs, bird’s nests) and fascinating souvenirs (pearls, conchs, tortoise-shells).
IV. What to See in Cu Lao Cham Nature Reserve?
1. Hai Tang Pagoda
Built in 1758, this pagoda worshipped Bodhisattva, Buddha, sea god and local god. In the past, there was a storm attacking the pagoda so in 1848, local people decided to reconstruct and redecorate it. Now, it is 200 m away from its original location.
Hai Tang Pagoda lies on the foot of Hon Lao Island’s west mountain and is opposite a small valley in Cham Island. Hai means the sea and Tang means Tipitaka, which is a Buddhisst holy books containing Buddha’s words.

2. Cham people’s Ancient Well
This well was dug 2 hundreds years ago by Cham people but until now, it still works well and the locals can use its fresh water. Its architecture is not different from other Cham wells with a pipe shape, annular bricks management, a square pillar, and a surrounding square base. Even during the dry season, people can still use water from this well for different purposes.

3. Temple of Bird’s Nest Business Founders
Erected in the early 19th century, this temple is used to worship the bird’s nest business’s founders. The gods of the sea are also worshipped here, which is similar to Hai Tang Pagoda. Each year, following the Chinese calendar, on the 9th and 10th of March, local people often come here to pray for a new year with better harvests.

Rain season (monsoon season)
As with most destinations, you can still enjoy Vietnam during the monsoon season (April to October), but there are some reservations. You meet fewer travelers and many more mosquitoes during the rainy season. Negotiating better prices for accommodation becomes easier, and tours can be cheaper, but outdoor activities become soaked experiences. Transport delays happen. Buses may not run during long periods of heavy rainfall, because sometimes roads get flooded and become more dangerous to drive.
Typhoon season
Although nature does not always play by the rules, hurricane season (typhoon season) usually ends every December around December. The start dates depend on which part of Vietnam: north, central or south. In general from August to November and October is generally the most stormy month.

Central Vietnam
Central Vietnam (Hoi An, Da Nang, Hue) has warm and dry weather from mid-January to the end of August, with temperatures often reaching mid-30 degrees. During the winter months, rainfall increases with the peak levels in October and November, sometimes in the form of typhoons.

South Vietnam
With temperatures remaining constant throughout the year, the climate in the south (Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong Delta, Mui Ne, Phu Quoc) is split into two simple seasons, wet and dry. The dry season starts in November and ends in April / beginning of May, with a little warmer and more humid at the end of February to May. The wet season lasts from May to early November, with the months of June, July and August receiving the most rainfall of the year.

January
During this time of the year, dry and pleasant weather can be enjoyed in most of the country, with the only exception being the northern regions. Temperatures can drop dramatically in these areas, especially in the mornings and late evenings it feels much cooler. This is especially the case for Sapa and Ha Giang. For the best beach weather you have to go to Phu Quoc with guaranteed sunshine. It is good to know that the Halong Bay can be quite blurry at this time of year and you may not get the best views.
February
The cold mornings begin to disappear in the north and hot dry weather is expected in most of the country. North Vietnam remains an exception and feels colder. Good to know is that while traveling in February during TET (Vietnamese New Year) the majority of shops, museums and restaurants are closed for about a week.
March
This is high season for travel to Vietnam and the best time to visit. Beachgoers now have a better choice of destinations, with Mui Ne, Con Dao and Nha Trang all getting good weather. Hoi An is also a great beach destination by the end of the month. This is the perfect time to visit Halong Bay, which should have a clear blue sky without haze.
April
Like March, April is the best time to visit to travel to the country and you will see more crowds, with fantastic weather everywhere.
May
It is getting hot and May offers a wonderful opportunity to miss the April high season prices. Rain has yet to come, but by the end of the month you can expect a rain shower in the northern and southern regions.
June
You may get occasional rain in the north and south of the country, but Hanoi, Mai Chau and Halong probably have a clear blue sky most of the time. The best place to be is in Central Vietnam, where the sun is still shining. Very little rain is expected in Lang Co, and Hoi An serves as a beautiful beach destination. Grab your chance in the off season before the school holidays start next month.
July
Central Vietnam is the best place to be, with hours of sunshine and little rain. The rest of Vietnam is likely to experience some showers, but not enough to influence your pleasure.
August
Central Vietnam is the best place to visit at this time of the year, although the rest of the country is still worth a visit, if you don’t mind having occasional rain. Although flights can be more expensive, hotels offer great promotions during the Vietnamese low season.
September
Catch the last sun on the central coast of Vietnam before the rain occurs more often at the end of the month. The north and south are usually very wet at this time of the year, but hotels are cheap.
October
The sun is returning to the north of the country and this is a great time to go to Sapa or leave the beaten track in Ha Giang. Although this is not the best time for a beach vacation, Vietnam has so much more to offer and traveling in October means you skip the crowds.
November
The high season begins again and many people head to Vietnam for the colder winter months in the north. By the end of the month, the entire country is generally hot and dry, with the exception of the central region, which can have some showers.
December
There is still a chance of rain in the central part of the country; however, the rest of Vietnam will be hot and dry. The beach season starts again on Phu Quoc. It is advisable to book early for the Christmas period, because there is not much available.
